50 x 30 cm

Oil on Canvas (Framed)

2023

The bitter cold and prolonged darkness in winter can seem never-ending, with warmth and light a distant dream. Yet, with every passing sunrise, the days grow faintly warmer. In the frozen river a tiny rivulet forms, followed by a stream, until the ice breaks up and rushes away in the swift-flowing water. No longer do rooks caw on barren branches; instead, songbirds return to build their nests in leafy trees.

This painting captures the Tamir River in Mongolia on the cusp of a spring thaw, where long-dormant hope flickers back into being, promising the renewal of life. As a poet once wrote: “Weeping may last for a night, but rejoicing comes in the morning.”
