Artwork Highlights

Swasti tells us about the circumstances or reflections that inspired her biblical works.

‘Little Boy’s Lunch’ was created a few weeks before Thanksgiving. I was just getting started and spent a lot of time painting master studies while researching old masters, particularly Van Gogh and Picasso. I wanted to create something that reflected the theme of Thanksgiving while also experimenting with a more abstract style inspired by Picasso.
I was deeply moved by the idea that Jesus went to the cross for us. Thinking about the immense suffering he endured, especially the pain of wearing the crown of thorns, makes it even more profound. The thought that, during each moment of excruciating pain, he was thinking about each one of us and that this love is what kept him going, really shows the extent of his love for us.
“Mary Did You Know” was inspired by the song of the same title, written by Mark Lowry in 1984. The painting was created shortly before the Christmas season, and I was struck by the profound truth that something of such immense importance could be hidden in the most ordinary way. The idea that Jesus, the Son of God who was with God from the beginning when the universe was created, could come in the form of a helpless baby was deeply moving to me.
