The Way Home
BYAMBAJARGAL
Oil on Canvas
60cm x 80cm
It has been a weary journey of many days, indicated by the presence of a packhorse needed to carry supplies. The traveller has stopped to reconsider his direction, having reached an impasse, for the way is barred by a river below a sheer cliff. Dead trees (symbolic of disappointments) lie across the traveller’s path, and much time has passed - the leaves are turning yellow and winter is nigh. But there is yet hope: by going straight towards the tree shaped like a cross, the traveller will find a path still unseen, leading onwards and then upwards, beyond the river to a bright horizon where he will find safety and shelter.
