The proclamation of the birth of Jesus was first made to shepherds living out in the fields by night. This was most likely between September to November, when the climate was still warm enough for the shepherds and their sheep to be in the field overnight. So it was during the dark of night when an angel appeared to them from Heaven and said, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger.”
