The sunflowers form a community. A sea of radiant yellows is punctuated by the vibrant tones and majestic patterns of the butterflies, insects and members of the growing ecosystem. The living beings connect with each other, realising that there is a unity in diversity.

Through sign language, Hock Sik could connect with his hearing relatives, and he also found a wonderful community in both the hearing and the deaf at SADeaf where he can share his concerns and celebrate his achievements.

About Follow The Sun

Community and Connection is the second painting out of a series of 4.

Helen Keller says, “Keep your face to the sun and you cannot see the shadows. It's what the sunflowers do.” Inspired by Hock Sik, a deaf person raised in Singapore, and his life story, Sound of Art’s artist Glacy Soh painted 4 panel paintings that capture his life, challenges and aspirations. It is Glacy’s wish that all of the beneficiaries of the Singapore Association for the Deaf (SADeaf) will smile at the world and stand tall with their heads held high.
