Sometimes steering a conversation that reaches the soul is an intricate maze. But once we reach heartfelt conversations, our friendships become closer. Having the right conversation starter in the living room can quickly bring conversations with your guests to a deeper level. And that is where art transforms your relationships.When our guests visit our house, often they marvel at the artworks and begin asking us about them. Our interpretations of the art may vary, but art has the power of articulating the stirrings of our soul, and that is the start of heartfelt conversations. Here is an example of an opportunity to share our hearts:

CONSIDER THE WILDERNESS

Let us appreciate this masterpiece: Consider the Wilderness by Glacy Soh. Notice how she portrays the restful pace of the white horse meandering the soft luscious grassland. Its unhurried mane rests gently on the horse's back speaking of the stillness of the wind. All around it is luscious provision' the rich grassland provides abundant food so that the horse need not strive to eat its fill. As the horse paces the hills, I am reminded of the Psalm:

The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
he refreshes my soul.

This masterpiece speaks to my soul's longing for rest. This becomes an opportunity for me to share my Source of rest, about how my yoke became easy and my burden light. As you see, with the power of art in encapsulating my soul's condition, I can quickly share my deep longings and Hope. 

Often after sharing, it is a good opportunity to ask your guest about how the art speaks to them. Perhaps your guest sees the horse as a symbol of victory, or that the horse is not alone but in the company of a friend. Then ask why the artwork speaks to their soul in such a deep way. It could open up an opportunity for you to bring healing and hope.

THE GOOD YIELD

Not all artworks are impressionistic. Sometimes, an artwork's theme may be more obscure and it's style more avant-garde. This is where we harness our soul's intuition to read what the work speaks to us. 

Let us now marvel this brilliant masterpiece: The Good Yield by Raina Kim. This a striking representation of abundant blessing. Notice the rich swashes of black overlayed with broad strokes of gold. It speaks to me of a bountiful harvest, almost like wheat bursting forth from a tight bundle. The blessings are flourishing organically. I am reminded of the Proverb:

Honor the Lord with your wealth,
with the firstfruits of all your crops;
then your barns will be filled to overflowing,
and your vats will brim over with new wine.

My interpretation of this artwork can draw our guests toward our Provider. We can then explain how we will never lack anything because of our Hope. This brings us a ripe opportunity to reap a harvest and bless our guests with abundant life.
