Our Art in a Unique Raffles Hotel-themed Home!
Follow us on a visit to the home of satisfied Sound of Art customer, Steven! Steven has purchased multiple Sound of Art works for his home, which has beautiful interior decor designed to mimic that of Singapore’s iconic Raffles Hotel.
Many Sound of Art customers have unique visions for their homes, and we are always more than happy to discover their beautiful living spaces and help to complete them with the artworks we have to offer. In this video, we take you on a trip into the home of Steven, a customer of ours with a very special home design!
Steven’s house is cleanly decorated and modelled after the style of Singapore’s very own Raffles Hotel, featuring Victorian style furnishings alongside Asian elements.
Discovering us through our 2019 Covid fundraiser, Steven found 3 lovely and inspiring artworks from our artist, Erica Wee to complement and enhance his unique home.
“On the Lookout”:
The imposing gaze of the leopard and the stark colour contrast is an eye-catching piece that sparks meaningful and interesting conversation in response to the art!
“On the Lookout”, featuring a seated leopard in side profile, is now a striking centrepiece in Steven’s living room (see image left). Steven’s vision for his house was for it to be designed in line with the iconic Raffles Hotel, and for it to be curated with artworks like a gallery. In his living room, we see the old meeting the new, with a quaint faux fireplace seamlessly in-built with modern audio speakers.

Above and to the right of this, nature-themed works adorn his walls, reminiscent of the botanical sketches commonly made for ecological studies during the colonial period. The black-and-white theme also echoes the aesthetic of old colonial bungalows built in Singapore in the early 1900s, with dark timber beams and whitewashed walls.
Steven was drawn to Erica’s works because they so perfectly complements the nature-themed interior decor and matches the colour palette of the house. He was further moved to purchase the work by the Christian inspiration behind them, and it only confirmed his decision to know that at the time, the proceeds from many of her works were also going towards our Covid-19 fundraiser helping many who were badly affected by the pandemic.
Through Sound of Art, Steven also further commissioned to do a custom lion painting (see image right).
This special commission was inspired by the lion, Aslan, a Christ-figure in C.S. Lewis’ book series, The Chronicles of Narnia. This work acts as a personal reminder to Steven through the look of “tough love” captured in the gaze of the lion.
Its location in his study now makes it a well-placed reminder to him to work harder under the watchful eye of our Lord! Animal paintings are in fact a popular choice for work spaces to represent and act as a reminder of one’s working values throughout the day.
By placing multiple works of the same artist (“On the Lookout”, “Earnest Intentions”, and the commissioned lion painting) in his home, Steven provides for a cohesive look throughout his house, in line with the cohesive Raffles Hotel-themed interior design!
Sound of Art team is privileged to have supported Steven every step of the way, from deciding how to place the paintings to guiding him through the installation and framing process. Steven reflected that this made the process very comfortable and easy for him as a new art collector. If this is one of your first times buying art for your home, fret not!
