This Holy Week, we desired to help Christians fix their eyes on Jesus and persevere in following Him amidst this trying time, we crafted three meditative devotions and sent to our supporters. We hope these devotions bless your heart. 

GOOD FRIDAY

But he was pierced for our transgressions;
he was crushed for our iniquities;
upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace,
and with his wounds we are healed.
Isaiah 53:5

This Good Friday, we humble ourselves to remember that God sent His Son constrained in the frailty of human flesh. He touched the untouchables like lepers, drew a line of grace in the sand and laid his hands on children to bless them.

Yet we did not cherish those hands that healed, forgave and blessed us. We beat, whipped and nailed His hands. Jesus subjected Himself to torture and death by the people He loved to pay our debt of sin. Let us remember that we are the ones that nailed Jesus to the cross. Jesus was like a lamb led to a slaughter. He could have called legions of angels to stop the humiliation.

Jesus never did anything His own way. He chose to lift open hands to His Father, completely surrendered to His Father’s will. This sculpture reminds us of Love and Obedience. Jesus loves and obeys His Father, and out of that love, He loves us.

I invite us to pray with repentance and receive Jesus’ forgiveness:
Heavenly Father, thank You for Your grace. You sent Jesus to live a perfect life, heal, forgive and bless. We open our hands like Jesus. We receive Jesus as our Lord and Saviour. And we surrender our lives to You, just like how You gave Your Son for us. And just like how Jesus rose from the dead and is now with You in heaven, we long to be with You someday. In Jesus’ Name we pray, Amen.

HOLY SATURDAY

But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. Philippians 3:13-14

Just as Jesus suffered and died for our sins, God invites us to surrender our lives to Christ. Let every step we take be in the direction of Christ. Take captive every thought, word and action to love God and love His people.

We will face trouble, but God has already overcome the world. In this pandemic, our vision may become hazy. We may become distracted from following Christ because of fear and stress. Winds may assail us and waves beat us down, but let’s keep our eyes on Jesus.

In this painting, we see a dark interior of a Cathedral, formed with crimson lashings. You will barely notice the ark of the covenant and the cross at the end of the cathedral. Let us stay single-minded, looking at the cross where our Saviour died and obey Him till the end, and we will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love Him.

Be thou my vision, O Lord of my heart;
Naught be all else to me, save that thou art.
Thou my best thought, by day or by night;
Waking or sleeping, Thy Presence my light.
Amen.

RESURRECTION SUNDAY

“All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28:18-20

When Jesus called His first disciples, He called humble fishermen in the marketplace. “Follow Me, and I will make you become fishers of men.” It was inconceivable that uneducated commoners would have influence on billions of people globally. Yet Jesus’ Kingly authority conferred these men power to change the world.

Jesus extends The Great Commission to us, however insignificant we are. Wherever we are, we must make disciples preaching the Good News of salvation and teach obedience to God’s law.

We must never tire from this calling. Just like the fisherman in the painting casting his net wide at the break of dawn, God’s heart for salvation must be written on our hearts from the moment we wake up. Cast your net wide.

I invite you to pray for the lost:
Heavenly Father, You desire to draw all men to yourself. Your heart aches for the prodigal sons and daughters to come home into Your family. Send us, Father. With our nets in our hands, help us be fishers of men and disciple Your children into Your kingdom and Your righteousness. In Jesus’ Name I pray, Amen.

PERSONAL REFLECTION

Being faced with the terror of an invisible enemy, the Corona Virus. Amidst the gloomy news reports and the barrage of worries assailing our minds, how can we find rest for our souls? I urge you to turn to Christ.

Turn your eyes upon Jesus
Look full in His wonderful Face
And the thing of earth will grow strangely dim
In the light of His Glory and Grace

Behold, God speaks! You are His little lamb and He is your Shepherd. You will not lack anything. He leads you to quiet and still waters and He refreshes your soul. He never leaves you nor forsakes you. Find Him in the secret place in your heart and you will have His Shalom in the midst of the storm.
