Crown of Thorns

But He was pierced for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed. Isaiah 53:5

There was a shocking moment in our history when God died. Our King, the Ruler of the world, the Maker of the cosmos, obeyed His Heavenly Father to the point of death, even death on a cross. See the face of our victorious King in peaceful surrender.

What kind of God is this? Rather than pouring an eternal wrath upon us for our rebellion, He paid the price Himself. God saved us from Himself so that His justice may be satisfied.

Now we can be adopted as children of God. What a moment in history! The holiness, wrath and love of God converging in the suffering Christ. It is too much to bear! If God gave us everything, how can we repay Him?

Dear Jesus, we take Your salvation for granted so often. We hold back our lives from You and forget the price You paid for our salvation. We love You more than anything, and we hold back nothing from You, even our lives. Take it all. Amen.
