Jaee is a contemporary artist based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. With a Bachelor’s degree in Law and a Diploma in Music Production, she stumbled upon her art journey by accident! For many years, she was unable to find a suitable local artist to train her artistically-inclined children. Finally, she found a renowned artist who would instead mentor her so that she could teach her children. Her first oil painting class gave her immense joy and revealed her hidden talent. That was the beginning of Jaee's journey as an artist.
Bold in experimenting, her work often exhibits the same bold gestural marks, impasto and scratches. These expressive textures are fundamental to Jaee's artistic style and found in almost every piece of her artwork. Over time, Jaee’s artwork evolves as she started looking for more ideas and inspiration. And she found it from her childhood memories of growing up in a secluded village in Malaysia. Jaee uses those memories to select materials derived from nature. These materials range from turmeric, mangosteen, beetroot, ground coffee, salt and sands.
"I draw my artistic inspiration from my life encounters and childhood memories. Also, from what’s happening in the world in the area of humanity, and my visions and hope for the future. I believe that art and beauty can communicate hope. And art helps us to imagine the future.
Working with my instincts and sometimes, grieved by tragic events in our world, I channel my feelings to the canvas. Every stroke of the brush and every splash of colour is a visual translation of my emotions. Each art pieces are unique and it is a process of improvisation and discovery. I let my feelings lead me to spontaneously experiment with different materials to form shapes, textures and colours.
I see creating art as an act of worship to God. The way the Spirit moves through art keeps me in awe. And I embrace this God-given passion to give glory to Him."
